Interviewed By Julie McCrossin AM

World Cancer Day

The amazing Julie McCrossin recently interviewed me as part of her work promoting the upcoming World Cancer Day on the 4th of February.

The amazing Julie McCrossin recently interviewed me as part of her work promoting World Cancer Day. As many of you know she is a survivor of stage 4 oropharyngeal cancer. I diagnosed her in 2013, and from there she went on to be treated with 33 sessions of radiation therapy and four sessions of chemotherapy.

Of course, once she heard that St Vincent’s Hospital had acquired a Da Vinci Single Port Robot and that I would perform the first head and neck cancer surgery with it, an interview was bound to happen! The type of surgery performed, a resection of left oropharyngeal squamous cell cancer with a left modified radical neck dissection, afforded me a good insight into how this innovation in robotic surgery would benefit head and neck surgeons. I was only too pleased to discuss my understanding and experience of the Da Vinci Single Port Robot with Julie.

The video here comes from her very informative YouTube channel, Head and Neck Cancer.
